This Privacy Policy describes how Drop a Hint (the "App") collects, uses, and shares information when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

When you install the App, we automatically have access to certain types of information from your Shopify account:

Merchant Information: We collect your name, email address, and shop URL to manage your account and communicate with you.

Customer/User Data: Because the App facilitates sending "hints," we collect information provided by your store visitors, including:

  • Sender Information: Name and email address/phone number of the person sending the hint.
  • Recipient Information: Name and email address/phone number of the person receiving the hint.
  • Product Data: Information about the specific product being shared.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect from you and your customers to:

  • Provide the core functionality of the App (triggering the "Drop a Hint" notification).
  • Customize the experience within your storefront.
  • Communicate with you regarding app updates or technical support.
  • Prevent fraud and ensure the security of our services.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We share your personal information with third parties only as necessary to provide the services described above.

Service Providers: We may use third-party processors (e.g., SendGrid for emails or Twilio for SMS) to deliver the "hint" messages.

Compliance with Law: We may share information to comply with applicable laws and regulations or to respond to a subpoena or search warrant.

4. Your Rights (GDPR and CCPA)

Note to Merchants: Since you are the Data Controller of your customers' data, the App acts as a Data Processor. We will support you in fulfilling any data access requests from your customers.

When a hint is sent through the App, we retain that information for our records until you request its deletion. We do not store customer data longer than necessary to provide the service.

6. Security

We take reasonable industry-standard precautions to protect your personal information and ensure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.
